Max Verstappen Won Emilia Romagna Grand Prix 2022

As Ferrari failed to deliver on home soil, Max Verstappen won a dramatic wet-dry Emilia Romagna Grand Prix against Red Bull teammate Sergio Perez, with Charles Leclerc spinning late on to finish sixth after Carlos Sainz retired.

The Dutchman won the Sprint on Saturday and led off the line on Sunday, with teammate Perez joining him at the front — while Leclerc slid to fourth for a brief while. On the first lap, the Safety Car was deployed after Daniel Ricciardo pushed Carlos Sainz into the gravel and out of the race for the second time.

With 86 points after the Imola Grand Prix, Charles Leclerc maintains his lead in the Driver's Championship. Max Verstappen, the Imola champion, is second with 59 points, followed by Sergio Perez, his teammate. With 54 points, Checo is in third place in the standings. Lando Norris, the second runner-up in Emilia Romagna, sits in sixth place with 35 points.

In the Constructors' Championship, Scuderia Ferrari remains in first place with 124 points. Red Bull, on the other hand, moved up to second place with 113 points after a double podium. Mercedes, last year's winner, sits in third place with 77 points.

The Miami Grand Prix takes place on May 6-8, with a brand-new era of Formula One taking to a brand-new circuit – with Max Verstappen gaining a critical victory in Ferrari's backyard, putting him in second place behind Leclerc in the drivers' standings.
